About
MJ is constantly drawn to an intricate interplay of colour, shape, and surface as an exploration of the human landscape. Her work is often an abstracted reflection of personal and universal ponderings, marked by contemplation, curiosity and sensemaking. She views the creative process as a dialogue between intuition and intention, the organic and the structured.
“I begin with a blank canvas or an empty page, allowing my instincts to guide me as I apply paint to canvas or sketch lines on paper. Each stroke, each mark is a conversation that evolves as the piece takes shape. I try to embrace the unexpected, finding inspiration in moments of serendipity when I let go of control allowing the work to find its voice.
Emotion, experience and memory also plays a significant role in my creative process. I believe that art has the power to evoke deep, shared feelings. I strive to create work that resonates with the human spirit, invites viewers to reflect on their own experiences, and sparks a sense of wonder and introspection.”
Based in Albury, Australia, MJ has devoted her life to studying and working in visual arts and education. Completing a Bachelor of Fine Arts (Hons), Grad. Dip. Education (Secondary), and a Masters of Education (Leadership) she is a passionate secondary school educator. In her role as Head of Creative and Performing Arts and as a senior Visual Arts teacher within a vibrant and high performing arts community, she strives not only to develop her own creativity, but that of the colleagues and young people she works with.
